Course description

This conversion programme is designed for graduates in any area who would like to pursue a career in professional psychology or who would like to incorporate it into their career. The programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), which means that those completing with an overall grade of 50% or above will be eligible for graduate basis for registration with the BPS. This will enable further specialist training in psychology within clinical, health, forensic, occupational, educational, and sports psychology. Graduates from this degree can also pursue psychological research via a PhD.

Whether you have studied psychology but did not gain accreditation with the BPS, or you are looking to change career paths after studying another subject, this could be the course for you. To help you make this transition, we provide pre-sessional materials, which provide a foundation in some of the key aspects that will underpin the degree. There are additional opportunities to get involved with staff research projects.

The course is block-taught two days a week (currently Thursdays and Frdays). The course uses an applied approach, drawing upon the experiences and insight of a team of psychologists who are committed to offering an excellent student experience. You will learn through interactive sessions with guided discussions around the topic. The course assessments focus on applications that you are likely to encounter in a future career in psychology. These will include research reports, essays, presentations and a dissertation.

While, by nature, the MSc Psychology programme is intense (to include the relevant BPS curriculum), it has been carefully designed to build your knowledge and skillset throughout the different modules informed by the most up-to-date pedagogical research. We have an excellent sense of community on the course, with peer-support networks and supportive staff.
